- I just finished my virtual hike along the Wilderness Road by reading Jim Dahlman’s new book A Familiar Wilderness. My reading was like his hike, a small section at a time. I enjoyed every minute of it. His focus on the people he met along the way made this much more than a typical travelogue. My views of home and neighborhood have been challenged and my sense of adventure is stirred. I highly recommend it both for those interested in the history of Daniel Boone and his road, and for those seeking insight into modern day Appalachia.

- This is a well crafted travel book which weaves history and interviews with the complexities of trying to retrace the Wilderness Road by foot in modern times. I found myself entranced.
